When you think about your childhood, what memories do you recall? Members of the Macon County Conservation Foundation remember endless summers of building tree houses, wading in the creek, fishing, and picking wild strawberries. We caught frogs, salamanders, snakes, and fireflies. During the day, we laid on our backs and identified animals and other shapes in the clouds. By night, we watched for shooting stars and a rare glimpse of the northern lights.
A new online donation page is coming soon!
In the meantime, you may still donate to the Foundation by calling the District Office at 217-423-7708 or by sending your donation to our street address. Checks may be made to the Macon County Conservation Foundation.
Our parents were so wise in chasing us outdoors to play. They knew we would be happier and healthier playing outdoors and recent scientific studies support them. Looking back on that part of our lives, we know what a gift they gave us by insuring we spent time exploring nature.
But, how many of us are passing that same generous gift to the children we know?
Playing in nature was once a right of passage that most of today’s children do not experience, many because the opportunities aren’t available. You can help change this trend by supporting our goal to reconnect children and nature. Your donation will allow us to expand nature programs for children. If you prefer, you can make a donation in honor or memory of someone who took you fishing or hiking or introduced you to nature in a special way. We are happy to send a card to them or their family acknowledging your gift.
Through your gift, you will know you have improved the lives of today’s children and generations to come!
